Oregon's First CIR Panel Selected

Our public event Tuesday night was a great success- we finished the selection of Oregon's first Citizens' Initiative Review panel! A big thanks to all who helped out or attended. We had three teams assemble a panel which was balanced according to the demographics of the state's electorate. All three teams were able to create a different balanced panel and we chose the one that had the fewest "clusters" - ie the one with the most variance within each demographic. So, not all the members of one political party came from the same geographic location and not all the women had the education level, etc. We were pleased to have Marge Easley and Kappy Eaton of the League of Women Voters of Oregon present as observers of the process. The League has recently joined HDO's Evaluation Committee for the CIR demonstration project, and we're very glad to have their oversight of the demonstration process. Look for another blog post with more detail, photos and perhaps some of the video footage from the selection process in the coming days. PS: If you've not already done so- please sign on as a supporter and give us your email address- we're opening the vote to select the measure for the demonstration today.
